Footage of a flash mob by members at Romanby WI has attracted more than 10,000 online views.
As the group’s annual general meeting ended, a flash mob broke out with members erforming a rendition of the YMCA, with the lyrics transformed to the tune of “It’s fun to be in the double-U I”.
A video of the incident was posted on Facebook and has gone viral.
The flash mob starts with a few members of the audience singing and dancing, queued by the arrival of unexpected music.
One participant looks odd but is then joined by another and another as the plan unfolds.
Around a dozen women then march to the front of the meeting.
Confused and bewildered faces in the audience soon turn to chuckles and applause as the members are entertained by the new lyrics.
Including the lines “Woman don’t you dwell on your woes, I said, Woman put your shoes on your toes” and “there’s a lot you can do, you can meet someone new”. To the tune of the iconic Village People track.
Romanby WI has 85 members aged from their 20s to 90s.
This video was intended as entertainment for local members but is now becoming an advert for the benefits of WI membership more broadly.
