Wensleydale Railway has announced the launch of its summer appeal to support maintenance and improvement plans.
The line is one of the longest heritage in the UK, with 22 miles of track and infrastructure to maintain.
It is also seeking to invest in projects that will improve the railway’s future.
It is launching its summer appeal to support on-going improvement plans in areas such as infrastructure and buildings as well as development of its education, heritage and community programmes.
Railway bosses say the appeal builds on the success of its Return to Redmire appeal in 2022, which has raised £50,000 to date.
It complements recent improvements including relaying track at Aiskew, resurfacing Leeming Bar station platform and a donation of 2.5 miles of track from SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK in Teesside.
The summer appeal will also support work now underway to restore services westwards to Wensley as part of the railway’s plans to return passenger services to Redmire.
Nick Keegan, fundraising and marketing manager at Wensleydale Railway, said: “We have a small, volunteer-led management team that is focussed on developing our railway.
“We are committed to improving our railway for customers and we want to secure its future for the next generation to enjoy. This takes time, hard work and funding. We need help to realise our ambitious plans.”
He added: “As recent news announcements have demonstrated, we continue to make significant progress in our improvement plans and we urge people to join us and support our latest appeal.”
