Members of Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team came to the aid of a walker who was taken ill yesterday.

Whilst a number of volunteers were involved in covering our annual Whalebones Walk along the Cleveland Way national trail, the team received a request for assistance from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust after a man was taken ill while walking the same trail near Osmotherley.

A team spokesperson said: “Having redeployed some team members from the Whalebones Walk, we also dispatched a double-crewed Land Rover whilst other members made their way to the scene separately.

“The casualty was treated by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service crew and we then carried him on a wheeled mountain rescue stretcher for approximately 400-metres to a waiting ambulance.

“We wish him well for his recovery.

“Fourteen Team members were deployed for just over one and a half hours hours, some then returning home while others drove back to resume coverage of the Whalebones event.
