A £3,200 grant has helped a village hall provide a warmer welcome to its users.
Tholthorpe Village Hall, situated in the village near Easingwold, has undergone a major renovation to tackle the building’s chilly interior during winter months.
With the help of a £3,200 grant from Hambleton District council’s Making a Difference Fund, new windows, heaters and lighting have been installed, along with a new system to reduce condensation and installed new blinds. The entire ‘Winter Warmer’ scheme cost £33,000 and also included a redecoration of the building.
“The village hall is an old school and full of character – but that made it a cold and often unwelcoming building,” said chairman of the Village Hall Committee, Rosemary Kind.
“Our winter warmer project has changed all that – we now have a warm, modern looking facility which is more user friendly and sustainable for future generations. We are very grateful to all our funders – including the district council – without them this improvement project would not have happened.”
Cash for the scheme also came from village funds, North Yorkshire County Council and WREN.
Hambleton District Council’s Making a Difference scheme sees money from ongoing cost savings implemented by the council reinvested back into the local community.
