Police say they were called out this weekend after a van driver asked a female dog walker to get in his van.
The incident happened at about 7.45pm on Saturday in Kirkby Lane, Kirkby Fleetham.
Police say the male occupant drove slowly passed a dog walker, asking if she was ok and offering to give her a lift and to get in the van.
When she declined, the van driver drove off at speed out of the village.
The vehicle had driven around the location a couple of times prior to this.
The vehicle is described as a white Ford Transit Custom van possible registration beginning ND21.
The male is described as late 20s, Asian male, dark hair, and dark full beard.
He was wearing a hi-vis vest.
A police spokesperson said: “Please be vigilant when out walking and report direct to police if you see anyone or any vehicles acting suspiciously.”
