Unattended shisha pipe prompts 999 house fire false alarm

Firefighters were called to a report of a house fire this morning only to be stood down when the incident turned out to be an unattended shisha pipe.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) were alerted at about 4.45am this morning after the owner of a house in Easby, near Stokesley called 999.

The owner of the property, which they rent out, lives in London but had seen what they thought was a house fire on CCTV.

Crews from Stokesley and Danby were sent to the incident.

However, a NYFRS spokesperson said: “After contacting the caller directly for further information, the owner in London confirmed this was now a false alarm with fire crews then stood down after his neighbour in Easby had called round to find an unattended shisha pipe.”
