Thirsk School stages own version of Broadway hit musical

Alfie Dickson plays Link Larkin in Thirsk School and Sixth Form College’s production of ‘Hairspray’.

Thirsk School and Sixth Form College has built on its reputation for musical theatre when it brought hit Broadway show Hairspray to town.

The show, produced by the school’s performing arts department, starred Dulcie Webster-Jones as Tracy Turnblad and Alfie Dickson as Link Larkin, with Alex Gardiner in a scene-stealing role as Edna Turnblad.

The music was provided by a live band, and included well-known show-stopping tunes, such as You Can’t Stop the Beat and The Nicest Kids in Town, which had the packed audience clapping and singing along.

Nic Stimson, head of upper school, drama teacher and the impresario behind the show, said: “The range of students from Years 7 to 13 working together, being supportive of each other, making us laugh and smile is just brilliant.

“We are honestly privileged to be surrounded by great kids, as well as our ex-students who return to support us in the band and for stage management.”
