An afternoon of racing is on the cards at Thirsk on Friday with a competitive seven-race card on offer for punters heading to the track.
Racing gets underway at 1.38 with a class four handicap before rounding off at 4.40 with a six-furlong sprint in class six on an action-packed card.
Up first is the 1m4f handicap in class four (1.38) and Incremental is taken to follow up a Windsor win three weeks ago and make it back-to-back victories. Of his six rivals, Sax Appeal is one to keep an eye on, lightly raced and a fourth of ten in a Doncaster handicap last time around.
Race two (2.08) is the ten-runner maiden stakes in class six over the extended seven-furlong distance. Preference is for Ebt’s Guard, a nine-race maiden but his last two defeats were not by much so he is taken to get off the mark here if he continues his progress. The David Simcock-trained Saint Alessio should be in with a shout as well on turf debut after a solid run on the all-weather scene.
The third race on the card sees 11 runners head to the stalls for the five-furlong handicap in class six (2.38) and the Phillip McEntee-trained Jacquelina is thriving and bids for a fifth straight win, having landed a career-best victory at Chepstow on May 31 and is clearly the pick on form ahead of Frank The Spark, below-par when last seen finishing fifth in a Beverley handicap but is in calmer waters here and a jockey on board claiming 3lb off.
A ten-runner contest in division one of the class five handicap marks the midway point of the Thirsk card at 3.08. A Girl Named Ivy is probably too good for this division having landed at Ayr at big odds 24 days ago so should be well suited to handicapping here. Of her rivals, Keldeo and Alfa Kellenic are both last-time out winners so could well be on the premises once again.
The division two race of the class five handicap is up next at 3.38 over the six-furlong trip and preference is for Noel Fox, who was much-improved when landing an eight-runner maiden at Salisbury a fortnight ago and is sent handicapping on just her third start for trainer Ralph Beckett.
A class five fillies’ handicap over five furlongs is the penultimate race on the Thirsk card (4.08) as 13 runners will line up at the start. Noisy Music is turned out quickly under a penalty for trainer Mick Appleby and is backed to make it two wins in a week having scored handsomely on Monday.
Finally, the card comes to a close with a six-furlong class six handicap (4.40). Of the 14 runners, preference here is for Run This Way, who will take plenty of stopping in her bid for a hat-trick of wins and is also a previous course and distance winner at Thirsk.
