An expert local furniture maker has been appointed to fit out the new multi-million-pound Hambleton Crematorium on the outskirts of Thirsk.

Contractor Willmott Dixon has this week appointed Treske, a Thirsk based leading crematorium furniture supplier, to provide the full range of furniture requirements for the Hambleton District Council project.

Treske is the leading UK crematorium furniture supplier with expertise in the design and manufacture of furniture and furnishings required for new or refurbished, modern and traditional crematoria.

Treske will supply everything the new crematorium will need from chairs and sofas to flower and candle stands.

Work began on the crematorium build in November, with the development work now very much underway despite challenging conditions at times, due to the recent snowy and wet weather.

The 22-acre site which will be named Maple Park, is close to both the A1 and A19 and will include a service hall to accommodate approximately 120 mourners plus additional room for standing.

There will also be an entrance foyer, waiting lobby, offices and a family room.

As well as this, the single storey facility will include a wake facility and café with beautiful views out over the Hambleton hills. Once completed the site will also offer a memorial garden, meadows and a wooded area making it a calm and peaceful place for reflection or for scattering ashes.

Leader of Hambleton District Council, Councillor Mark Robson said: “Treske being appointed to fit out our new Crematorium with their bespoke, high quality furniture is really good news.

“Not only do they offer vast experience of making furniture and accessories specifically for crematoriums and churches, but they are a local company and I think now more than ever to shop local and support local businesses has never been more important.

“Confirming Treske as our furniture supplier this week, takes us one step closer to delivering this much needed project, which will offer a unique and essential service to our residents here in Hambleton.”

Justin Bartlett, CEO of Treske said: “Over the last 10 years the team at Treske have established specialist crematorium furniture design and manufacturing alongside the bespoke kitchen, furniture and ecclesiastical areas of our business.

“We are delighted to have been chosen to work with Hambleton District Council and Willmott Dixon on this important project within our own community.”

The development is set to be completed later this year.
