Four teenagers from the Cleveland area have been arrested following reports of aggressive moped riders in Great Ayton.
The four, aged 13, 18 and two aged 19, were arrested this afternoon after officers intercepted them in the Guisborough Road / Roseberry Crescent area.
Officers also seized two mopeds.
All four remain in police custody this evening on suspicion of vehicle theft, affray and possessing an offensive weapon.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “At this stage, no weapon has been found, however, members of the public reported seeing the group with what they believed was a knife.
“Anyone who finds a discarded knife is asked to leave it in-situ and call us on 101.
“We are aware that this has caused concern among the local community and a suggestion that the local primary school was the target. There is no evidence to suggest this at this time.
We believe the group were intending to carry out low-level offences in the area, and while the group were aggressive towards members of the public, no-one was injured.”
To reassure the local community, we’ll be carrying out targeted patrols in the area in the coming days.
Anyone who has CCTV footage, doorbell footage of the youths, or witnessed the groups’ actions and has not already spoken to us, please contact us on 101 or email Sergeant Arfan.Rahouf@northyorkshire.police.uk
