Teenagers arrested after fires started in Northallerton

Two teenagers from Doncaster have been arrested following a number of incidents in Northallerton.

Officers were called early this morning to a number of reports of damage to businesses on the High Street, including fire and damage caused to the British Heart Foundation shop, Crew Clothing and an attempt to set fire to a banner outside the town hall.

The two teenagers, a boy aged 15 and a girl aged 14, were arrested in the Applegarth area and taken into police custody//

The pair were arrested on suspicion of burglary, arson and criminal damage.

The boy was also arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference and theft from a vehicle after a car was found damaged on Bullamoor Road.

Officers received a number of reports from members of the public and have thanked people for reporting the information.

Firefighters from Northallerton and Thirsk were called at around 12.15am this morning to the first blaze.

Firefighters extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets, main jet and a thermal imaging camera.

A short time later crews from Northallerton and Bedale responded to a second fire in the doorway of another shop.

This was extinguished using a hose reel jet and a wildfire rake.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said this fire was also started deliberately.
