A tanker driver suffered serious injuries in a crash on the A19 yesterday.
Police are investigating the four-vehicle collision on the outskirts between Shipton by Beningbrough and Skelton.
It happened at around 11.40am on Wednesday.
The driver of a tanker had to be freed by firefighters and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
His injuries are believed to be serious but not life threatening.
The other vehicles involved are a white Ford Transit van, black Mitsubishi L200, and a flat-bed Ford Transit tipper truck.
The other drivers, all men, received treatment from paramedics for less serious injuries.
Both carriageways were closed while emergency services worked at the scene.
The south-bound carriageway re-opened at 2pm and the north-bound carriageway re-opened at 4.45pm after a white Isuzu water tanker was recovered.
Witnesses to the collision or motorists with dash-cam footage are urged to make a report via the North Yorkshire Police website or by calling 101.
