Suspects charged with shoplifting from Northallerton supermarket

Four shoplifting suspects have been arrested and charged after allegedly targeting a Northallerton supermarket.

The incident happened at Tesco on East Road, Northallerton, at around 6.30pm on Saturday.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “When the store manager alerted the police, officers were quickly on the scene and were able to stop the suspect’s silver Mazda 5 people carrier as it headed along the A168.

“Thousands of pounds worth of good were recovered from the vehicle, included clothing, cooking equipment and perfume.

“Store vouchers and cash in Pound Sterling, Dollars and Euros were also seized.

“As well as in Northallerton, it is believed some of the items were taken from stores in Newcastle.”

Following questioning, the suspects – two men and two women – were each charged with nine counts of theft.

They appeared at York Magistrates’ Court on Monday where they were released on conditional bail to appear at the same court on July 13.

The did not enter pleas.

The defendants are Lazar Rostas, 36, Gabriella Rostas, 30, both of Chartist Road, Birmingham, and Rindas Kvec, 32, and Genesa Kvec, 33, both of Washwood Heath Road, Birmingham.

Lazar Rostas was also arrested for failing to appear warrant issued by Plymouth Crown Court in 2017 relating to 19 fraud offences.
