Feelings of delight, relief and happiness were palpable as Stokesley School students collected their results this morning with many opening envelopes to find results that met or exceeded their expectations.
Teachers say the overwhelming majority of students who applied for university have secured their first choice offer; with others gaining their reserve choice offer or seeking a place through the clearing process.
Students not applying for university have been successful in gaining their desired next career step through apprenticeships, alternative further education routes or employment.
Mick Fenwick, headteacher, said: “One of the most important measures of any sixth form is the proportion of students who are enabled to move on successfully to their chosen career route and it is a matter of immense pride in these young people, and the staff team who have worked with them, that I am able to say that they have nearly all achieved their first choice.
“I wish them all the very best for the future and look forward to hearing of their successes as alumni of Stokesley School’s Sixth Form College.”
Lilibet Stroander, who gained A* grades in biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics and who is moving on to Oxford University to study biomedical science, said: “I really want to thank my teachers who helped me achieve these grades.
“I’m so looking forward to the next chapter and studying at Oxford University.
Deputy head boy, Wilf Lancaster Vall, gained A* grades in English literature and politics along with an A grade in history and a B grade in physical education.
He said: “I am very proud of the results and securing my place at Cambridge — it has felt like a lot of hard work but it was definitely worth it.”
He will go on to study human, social and political sciences at Cambridge University.
Lucy Knowles gained two A* grades in English literature and history, alongside a grade A in Spanish and a grade B in the extended project qualification.
She will study history and Spanish at Brasenose College, Oxford.
Harry Allinson gained three A grades in biology, chemistry and mathematics and will go on to study accounting at Durham University.
Lilibet, Wilf, Lucy and Harry stand representative of a group of students who were collectively entered for 259 A Levels, 253 of which were successfully passed (98%); and of these 10% were passed at grade A*.
The schooled thanked their senior student leaders who not only achieved outstanding grades and their first choice of university but have also demonstrated determination and great strength of character in their ability to effectively manage a combination of challenging A Level studies alongside supporting the student leadership body, acting as role models and mentors for our younger students.
They include our Head Boy, Jonathan Richardson, Head Girl, Daisy Ruffell, Deputy Head Girl, Aoife Dunkely and senior student leaders Annabelle Latham, Max Wentworth and Khopishanth Ketheesvaran.
Rob McGreal, senior assistant headteacher, said: “Our students have shown a great deal of resilience and maturity with their post 16 studies, we are incredibly proud of all their achievements.
“They have secured places at a variety of universities including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities such as Durham University and University of Sheffield.
“We would like to wish each of our students all the best for the future.”
