Hot homemade soup and a roll is now available to shoppers, visitors and workers in Northallerton every Wednesday lunchtime.
Volunteers from Hambleton FoodShare will serve lunch at the Zion United Reformed Church on the High Street between noon and 1.30pm for £2.50.
There is a choice of four soups each week and tea and coffee is also available.
There is a takeout option and the option to pay contactless.
“Our soup is made by volunteers, served by volunteers and all the money raised goes to supporting Hambleton FoodShare – your local foodbank,” said Michael Webster, chair of the Foodshare
“As we are a registered charity, we are run almost entirely by volunteers and rely heavily on fundraising.
“Soup and a roll provides not only shoppers but also workers with a quick, cheap and healthy lunch and allows us to raise much needed funds at the same time so please come along and support us.
“We were delighted to be able to support the recent UCI Road World Championships when it visited Northallerton and our team served up delicious soup to the visitors on the day .
“And we are also grateful to the local schools and churches who are currently donating all of their harvest festival tins and packets to the Foodbank which are going into the weekly food parcels.”
Hambleton FoodShare provides emergency food parcels for people who are in temporary financial crisis and struggling to feed themselves and their families.
This could be because they have lost their job, become incapacitated or the result of a delay in benefit payments.
