A sheep had to be put down after a suspected attack by a dog.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information about the sheep worrying incident near Stokesley.
It happened on Tuesday night in a field by the River Leven near to the junction of the A172 and Thirsk Road.
A police spokesperson said: “We believe that the sheep below was attacked by a dog.
“Following the incident, the sheep suffered a deep puncture wound and broken splintered neck bones and sadly it needed to be put down.”
Police are now requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
In particular officers are appealing for information about any person seen walking their dog in the field during this time.
