Sharp rise in Covid cases in Hambleton

The latest figures show a sharp rise in Covid cases in Hambleton.

More than 200 people from the district have tested positive for the virus in the last seven days.

There were 57 confirmed cases on Boxing Day alone.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people stood at 238 on December 23 which the most recent date rates have been released for.

At the start of December, the seven-day rate was under 50 cases per 100,000 Hambleton residents.

Only Scarborough – at 240 cases per 100,000 – has a higher rate in North Yorkshire.

Localised figures show the highest rates of infection in Hambleton are in the Rudby and Ingleby council area.

The rise comes ahead of a Government review of tier restrictions on Wednesday.

North Yorkshire is currently in tier 2 but could be moved up to tier 3 or even tier 4 if officials think the virus spread is out of control.
