Celebrations to mark a Rotary club’s quarter century of service to the community get underway next month.

The Rotary Club of Northallerton Mowbray holds its annual Charter Dinner on Saturday, October 19, at the Golden Lion Hotel, Northallerton – the 25th event since the club received its charter.

The club has issued an invitation to surviving founder members and former members to join the celebration.

Club president Anne Wall said she would be delighted if any of the 25 members who first established the club in 1994 would like to join the current club members at the silver anniversary event.

She said: “This is a real milestone in the history of the club and we want to reach out to those who were part of our beginning.

“Four of our current members – Basil Bosomworth, Peter Andrew, Diane Pownall and Kevin Hardisty – were members at the start.

“While not all of our founder members are still with us, we hope that some of the group, along with other former members, will be able to join us”

Northallerton Mowbray was established as the town’s second Rotary Club to cater for would-be Rotarians who were unable to attend the Friday lunchtime meetings of the Rotary Club of Northallerton – the town’s first club.

It was established as a mixed gender club. The Northallerton club at that time was men-only. It also aimed to attract membership from a wider area – hence the reference to the (Vale of) Mowbray in the name.

Today, the club, which meets on Monday evenings at the Allerton Court Hotel, Northallerton, has more than 30 members from Northallerton, Bedale and the surrounding area.

Recently it has attracted two new recruits.

Carole Ford has re-joined the club after a spell with the Rotary Club of Thirsk and Paul Woodvine was recently inducted as a new member.

Mr Woodvine has a background in engineering and was proposed for membership by former club president Ian Parminter.

He was warmly welcomed to the club by President Anne Wall.

Founder or former members interested in attending the dinner should contact Club Secretary Janet Crampton on rotarianjanetcrampton@gmail.com or 01609 748321.
