Pupils, staff and governors from Romanby Primary School are celebrating after the school was graded ‘good’ in its recent Ofsted report.
The report commented that since the last inspection leaders have made improvements to teaching and learning at the school.
Leaders’ work to improve writing and to ensure that pupils write with clarity and purpose has led to improved progress and attainment in writing, the report concluded.
The inspectors were particularly impressed by the schools’ strong safeguarding culture, its high attendance level and by the pupils’ well-mannered, courteous and polite behaviour.
Inspectors said: “Pupils are excellent ambassadors for their school. They are well mannered, friendly and welcoming to visitors.
“Pupils’ behaviour in lessons, around the school and on the playground is of a very high standard. In lessons, they routinely display very positive attitudes to learning.”
The report also recognised the school for its engaging curriculum.
It stated: “Leaders have ensured that the curriculum has been carefully designed. It motivates and encourages pupils to develop their knowledge and skills across a broad range of subjects.
“Pupils speak very positively about the exciting visits and activities that enrich their learning.”
James Foxwell, headteacher, said: “We’re thrilled with our latest Ofsted report and are really pleased that the comments of the inspector recognise the hard work and progress we have made over the last few years.
“I would like to thank all the pupils, parents, staff and governors for their continued support and dedication to the school.
“As acknowledged in the report, we have developed an aspirational and ambitious culture at Romanby and we will continue to strive to achieve high standards and performance and learn from the recommendations of the report.”
The school was rated as ‘requiring improvements’ back in 2013, but was later found to be ‘good’ in 2015.
