Bedale Archaeology & History Society’s next meeting will be the Annual Percival Turnbull Memorial Lecture.

This year, the lecture is given by Dr Pete Wilson FSA, who worked for English Heritage/Historic England for many years, including as head of research policy for Roman archaeology, and is now an archaeological consultant.

His PhD thesis was on Roman North Yorkshire.

He was secretary of the Royal Archaeological Institute and is chair of the Roman Antiquities Section of the Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical Society.

Pete’s subject is The Eastfield Enigma: A multi-period landscape and Roman-period mystery.

It will be held face-to-face at Bedale Hall and on Zoom at 7.30 pm on Tuesday, October 1.

Non-members are welcome for £3 on the door or can obtain the Zoom link and details of how to pay from bahsoc@outlook.com

The lecture is named after the society’s former president, field archaeologist Percival Turnbull, who died in 2016.
