The A684 has been closed at Morton-on-Swale due to flooding with firefighters today having to rescue two people and a cat after their vehicle became stranded.
The flooding follows heavy rainfall yesterday and further showers today.
Fire crews from Northallerton and Bedale were called to the flooding just before 12pm today.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The vehicle had two occupants and one cat inside.
“Crews managed to wade to the car and lead the occupants and carry the cat to safety.”
Elsewhere, firefighters from Hawes were called to Brunt Acres Road at about 5.15pm on Tuesday to help three people and a dog after the vehicle became stuck in floodwater.
Firefighters waded through the water in water rescue equipment to assist all occupants to dry land.
The crew then returned to the same place at about 5.40pm after a vehicle with occupants got stuck in the water.
Firefighters again waded through the water in water rescue equipment to help occupants to dry land.
The crew then helped the occupants to their holiday home which was about half a mile from the incident.
As well as the road between Hawes and Appersett, the A684 was flooded at Aysgarth and at Wensley.
North Yorkshire Council said the road remained closed at Aysgarth and Wensley on Wednesday evening.
Several other vehicles stopped after driving into water, with the vehicles either being abandoned or being towed out.
