A charity which works to protect and restore the rivers, streams and catchments of the rivers Swale, Ure, Nidd, Wharfe and Ouse has launched its annual, online fund-raising auction.
With prizes donated from more than 40 Yorkshire individuals and organisations, Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust hopes to exceed its previous record total of £6,500.
Marie Taylor, chief executive officer for the trust, said “Our annual auction is a vital fundraising event, helping us secure essential support for our growing volunteer and education programmes.
“The funds raised enable a range of impactful activities, such as training local community members to collect water quality samples, equipping riverfly monitors, organising litter clean-ups, and managing invasive species through identification and removal.
“This funding also fuels our Rivers 2 U education project, which reached over 1,250 children in 2023 alone, inspiring the next generation of river guardians to care for and protect our rivers and wildlife.”
Marie also expressed her gratitude and thanks to the charity’s supporters.
“We are extremely grateful to all the people and companies who have donated prizes or experiences to be auctioned – some are even completely bespoke to the auction, but all signify a widespread commitment from the community of the importance of protecting the rivers of the Yorkshire Dales for the benefit of people, nature and wildlife.
“We are also grateful once again to Tennants of Leyburn for running the online auction for us.”
The 40-plus auction prizes include a wide range of gifts and experiences including an Emmerdale Studio and Village Tour with lunch in the crew and cast canteen and dinner for two in Rudding Park’s new immersive dining experience, Fifty Two.
