An afternoon of racing is on the cards at Thirsk Racecourse on Wednesday with a bumper eight-race offering for punters heading to the track.

The opener (2.15) sees a strong field of 14 head to the stalls for the six-furlong novice stakes in class five for the two-year-old up-and-coming stars. The Kevin Ryan-trained American Style went close in a decent Leicester maiden three weeks ago and is taken to go one better here ahead of another debut runner-up, Bella Love, who was second at Wetherby last time out.

Race two on the card (2.45) looks to be all about The Crafty Mole, a convincing winner at Yarmouth last time out and can defy a 6lb hike in the weights here to follow up and make it four wins on the spin over the mile and a three-quarters trip. Nancy P rates as the main danger, landing a career-best when scoring in an eight-runner handicap at lingfield on the all-weather 23 days ago.

The Reverend can maintain his unbeaten start to his racing career for the top William Haggas yard in race three on Thirsk’s card (3.15) – a seven furlong novice stakes with nine runners set to take it on. Of his rivals, the Karl Burke-trained Thunder Run showed promise when finishing second in a Wetherby minor even 22 days ago and can run well here as he looks an improving sort.

Nine runners will head to the stalls for race four on the card, a division handicap in class five over the seven-furlong sprint trip (3.45). Last-time-out winning three-year-old Georgie Wooster and Savvy Warrior are set to lock horns here and it’s a straight shot between those two at Thirsk, with preference slightly heading to George Wooster for the Tim Easterby team, having won with plenty to spare at Redcar on May 20 and can defy a 9lb rise in the weights.

Division two of the class five handicap is up next (4.20) and can go the way of previous course winner King’s Crown, six of ten last time out and heading in the right direction now, while race six (4.55) sees ten-year-old veteran Summerghand continue the autumn of his career and is very much in with a shout in the six-furlong contest, dropping down markedly in grade than when last seen in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The penultimate race on the card on Wednesday sees 11 runners tackle the class six handicap in division one (5.25) with preference for Calafrio, second of course and distance at Thirsk’s last meeting and can go one better here back in handicap company for trainer Phillip Kirby.

Finally, the card comes to a close with division two of the class six handicap over the six-furlong distance (5.55) and Gunnerside is the one to bear, arriving off the back of landing a seven-runner contest at Chepstow nine days ago and can follow that up here under a penalty and returning to a longer trip.
