Popular Thirsk walk now accessible to everyone after improvement work

A popular riverside footpath in Thirsk is now more accessible to those with wheelchairs or pushchairs, after undergoing renovation.

The scenic walkway at The Marage has now reopened after undergoing resurfacing work. The work was carried out thanks to a recommendation of £2,550 from the Environmental Locality Budget of North Yorkshire County Council by deputy leader Gareth Dadd, who represents the town.

Cllr Dadd said: “It’s a well-used footpath, by visitors and residents alike, and after years of trying to deal with legal issues and funds, we have managed to get it resurfaced.

“It is particularly important as replacing the uneven surface makes it easier for anyone with a wheelchair or mobility issues and buggy and pram users.’’

Christine Caley, who uses a wheelchair, said: “The resurfaced path has made life so much easier for me and other wheelchair users and also those with pushchairs and prams.

“It is important to be able to use the path safely and has made it enjoyable to use.”
