Police issue appeal after man dies in crash near Thirsk

Police are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage after a fatal collision on the A168 near Thirsk.

It occurred within a section of roadworks on the north-bound carriageway, south of the junction with the A170, at around 6.45pm on Friday.

The driver of the black Vauxhall Insignia, a man aged in his mid-40s from York, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been informed and are being supported by the police.

Local diversions were put in place by the Highways Agency while the emergency teams worked at the scene and to allow the police to investigate the circumstances of the collision.

The road re-opened at around 12.30am on Saturday.

Officers are appealing for people to come forward who witnessed the collision or recall seeing the black Vauxhall Insignia prior to the crash.

People with vehicle dash-cams who were travelling in the area at around 6.45pm on Friday are also urged to check the footage for possible sightings
