Member of public buys wheelchair for disabled woman after Northallerton theft

A daughter has thanked a kind-hearted member of the public who replaced a wheelchair stolen from her disabled mother.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information following the theft of the wheelchair.

The theft took place from Castle Close, Northallerton, at some point between February 18 and 20.

The wheelchair belonged to Emma Cox’s disabled mum.

Emma said her mum had saved up for months for the wheelchair and had only just bought it.

She added: “Unfortunately it has not been returned, but a very kind gentleman today turned up at her flat having bought her a brand new wheelchair.

“The level of generosity, support and kindness that has been shown to my mum has been overwhelming.

“This was a despicable act done by someone I can only assume must have been desperate, because stealing a wheelchair has to be among the worst of the worst.”

If anyone has any information about this crime or any suspicious activity in the area please report to the police immediately on 101 quoting incident number 332 of February 20.
