Plans have been submitted for a sports bar and gym at a Northallerton hotel.
The owners of the Allerton Court Hotel want to turn the restaurant into a sports bar to serve both residents and non-residents of the venue.
Plans have also been submitted on behalf of Minories G Ltd to turn the function room into a gym and studio space, again for use by guests and the wider public.
A small extension to the building has been included in the proposal.
Plans to build a drive-thru Starbucks coffee shop in the hotel’s car park have already been approved by planners.
Supporting focuments submitted with the plans state that the hotel may not be viable in the future if the changes are not allowed.
The documents say: “The hotel has recently passed into the applicant’s ownership and they are seeking planning permission to undertake renovations to the building which will enable its relaunch and secure its future as a hotel serving the Northallerton area.
“The hotel and hospitality industry has undergone significant changes over the past 10 years which have been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The application seeks permission for development that would respond to current market requirements for this type of hotel.
“The application seeks to substitute the existing function room facilities for a gym and the existing restaurant for a sports bar.
“Both facilities would serve hotels guests and visiting members of the public as is the current scenario with the function rooms and restaurant.”
