Plans to build 14 new homes on the site of former allotments in Bedale will go before planners this week.
The proposal involves creating a new housing development off Masham Road in the town for developer Arncliffe Homes.
The 0.48 hectare site is described in the planning application as being “overgrown”, but was last used for allotments.

The 14 properties would be made up of seven pairs of semi-detached homes, four of which would be two-bedroomed. The remaining ten homes would be three-bedroomed. Each house would also come with a driveway with parking for two cars. None of the proposed homes would be classed as “affordable”.
The plans state that existing hedgerows around the site would be retained and trees and shrubs would be planted along the edge of the site and elsewhere within the development.
Access to the homes would be via Calvert Way.
The report, which will go before planners on Thursday, November 15, states the homes would “integrate well” into Bedale, adding: “The proposed layout is a traditional cul-de-sac development of semi-detached dwellings, which is common within this part of the town.
“Although some of the dwellings vary in size, they are of a uniform design, which is different to that of the Calvert Way development where many of the dwellings vary in terms of form, height and design.
“The scheme would be more in keeping with the older, lower density developments of Masham Road and Grange Road and are therefore considered appropriate for this part of Bedale.”
The allotments are being relocated to another site in the town.
The developers have pledged financial contributions towards improving pedestrian and cycle access to the area, particularly retaining the right of way across the site and along Firby Road. Other contributions will go towards providing additional school places and local healthcare facilities as necessary.
The plans received four letters of objection from local residents, who raised concerns about the impact on the peacefulness of the surrounding cul-de-sac.
The issue of parking on the site was also mentioned, with one objector suggesting the three-bedroomed homes should come with three parking spaces so they could accommodate visitors, adding that parking on Calvert Way was “horrendous” with not enough off-street parking and cars parked on the side of the road throughout the estate.
Another objector said drainage in the area was already inadequate.
The plans will go before Hambleton District Council’s planning committee this Thursday, November 15.
Officers at the council have recommended councillors approve the plans.
