Firefighters were called to a Northallerton shop yesterday after reports of an alarm sounding and smoke coming from the doors.
Cres from Northallerton and Bedale responded to the incident in the High Street at about 5.30pm.
Firefighters arrived to discover it was a burglar alarm, set off by a pigeon which then set a smoke cloak off.
Crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to ventilate the premise.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service said: “This was a false alarm with good intent.”
