Overheating washing machine blamed for fire alert

Firefighters were called out due to smoke inside a house in Northallerton early this morning.

The incident in Turker Lane and was reported just after midnight.

Both fire crews from Northallerton responded.

The occupant was advised to wait outside of the property and await the arrival of crews.

Crews found no sign of fire and inspected the property using a thermal imaging camera.

The cause of the smoke was found to be from an overheated washing machine.

Crews removed the damaged appliance from the property and gave advice to the occupant.

A home fire safety visit has been arranged to take place during daylight hours.
