Northallerton Town Football Club has revealed its ambitious redevelopment plans.

Club chairman Peter Young and senior club members invited Richmond MP Rishi Sunak to tour the Ebac Northern League’s Calvert Stadium and view plans for new changing rooms and lounge for players and officials, new facilities for the club’s burgeoning junior section and a kit room.

The club will shortly seeking planning permission for the improvement scheme which is expected to cost around £200-250,000.

Mr Young said: “The existing changing rooms are well past their best and clubs like ourselves are facing increasing demands for better facilites for players, officials and spectators.

“We are ambitious, we want to play at a higher level and have the ground to match.”

Last season, the club finished third in Division 2 of the Northern League, which is the second oldest league in the world, and also won the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup for the third time in four years.

Mr Young said the club was hopeful of grant support to cover around half the cost of the development with fundraising meeting the rest of the bill. It was also hoped the club could go into partnership with a local builder to help with the project.

He said the club was committed to remaining a big part of the local community. The new facilities would benefit other local clubs that used the stadium and the club was anxious to remain good neighbours.

Mr Sunak said: “The club has a long tradition but is clearly aiming for a bright future at the heart of its community. The development plans look ambitious but achievable and they have my full support.
