Northallerton teenager to box for England

Northallerton teenager Hanna Holden has been selected by England Boxing to represent her country at the European Schools Boxing Championships in Slovenia in August.

The 14-year-old, who trains out of the Phil Thomas School of Boxing in Middlesbrough under head coach Craig Carney, recently won the National Schoolgirl Championships and would have gone on to fight for the British Schools title at the Tri-Nations Championships, but Wales and Scotland offered no opponent for her.

“The Europeans Championships have always been my goal this year, as I want Gold after only securing Bronze last year,” said Hanna.

“I’ve learned a lot over the last year and know what I’ve got to do to win”.

Hanna,  who is sponsored by Northallerton businesses Snigwig car sales and 3D Fitness Body Scanning, will now undergo a grueling six-week training programme with her coach, supplemented with weekend training camps under the guidance of the England coaches.

“It’s hard but worth it,” said Hanna.

The European Championships will take place in Slovenia from August 15 to 26 and will be live streamed over the England Boxing YouTube portal.
