Northallerton School and Sixth Form College has been handed almost £9m to move site as a new management structure is announced at the school.
The school has received the money from the Department for Education to move from Grammar School Lane to the location of the former Allertonshire School in Brompton Road, which will be refurbished.
The school has became part of the Areté Learning Academy Trust on Sunday, which also runs Richmond and Stokesley Schools.
In a further change, headteacher Chris Drew has resigned, with interim head Vicky Rahn being appointed head of school.
Andrew Wilkinson, formerly head at The Wensleydale School, in Leyburn, has become the deputy head of school.
A new governing body has also been appointed.
Catherine Brooker, chief executive of Areté Learning Academy Trust, said the changes heralded a bright new future fot the school.
In a letter to parents, she said: “Getting to this point has been complex and challenging but our belief in Northallerton as a school and community means we are confident we can realise the enormous potential of your children, whose future is at the heart everything we do.
“Our name Areté is based on the most articulated value in ancient Greek culture and put simply means pursuing excellence.
“It embraces wider ideals, including moral values, effort, high aspiration – becoming the best we can be. With your help, these are the values which we hope to rebuild at Northallerton School.”
Northallerton School merged with Allertonshire School in 2015, with all pupils later moving to the Grammar School Lane site.
The school says it expects the refurbishment will take two years to complete.
