Northallerton remains covid-19 hotspot

New cases of covid-19 have dropped sharply in areas of Hambleton — but remain high in Northallerton, the latest figures show.

Data published by North Yorkshire County Council reveals there were no cases in the Easingwold or Linton area reported in the seven days up to February 11.

However, 50 new cases of the virus were recorded in Northallerton.

The number is the highest in North Yorkshire.

The full breakdown for new cases in Hambleton in the seven days to February 11 was:

  • Northallerton – 50
  • Northallerton South and Leeming Bar – 22
  • Bedale and Snape – 11
  • Rudby and Ingleby – 10
  • Thirsk South and Coxwold – 9
  • Leeming, Pickhill and Thornton – 8
  • Brompton, Appleton and Thimbleby – 5
  • Thirsk North – 5
  • Great Ayton and Stokesley – 3
  • Easingwold and Stillington – 0
  • Linton, Tollerton and Raskelf – 0

Hambleton’s seven day rate per 100,000 people now stands at 129, with 17 new cases on average being recorded every day.

The rate is the second highest in North Yorkshire.

The rate was at its highest on January 4 when it was 487 cases per 100,000 people.

On Sunday, the government said it met its target to offer a vaccine to the 15 million most vulnerable people across the UK and that the rollout in England has officially been expanded to those aged 65 and over and younger people in at-risk groups.

In North Yorkshire, more than 175,000 vaccine doses have now been administered, according to the latest figures.
