A Northallerton man has been jailed after he was caught riding an e-scooter on the road while already banned from driving.
Jamie Orchard, of High Street, Northallerton, was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison at York Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old admitted a number of offences, including failing to stop for a police officer while riding an e-scooter on the town’s Bullamoor Road on October 13, and riding the e-scooter without insurance.
He also admitted posessing cannabis.
Orchard was also found to have wilfully insulted the justice sitting in the court at Tuesday’s hearing, although no sperate penalty was given for this after the defendant apologised.
At the time he was stopped on the e-scooter, Orchard didn’t have a licence as he’d been disqualified for drug driving following an incident in November 2020.
He was given a 16-week suspended sentence for this offence.
However, the latest offences mean the court this week implemented the prison sentence.
Orchard was also fined £128 and banned from driving for four years and five months.
