Northallerton charity to hold open day

A Northallerton charity which supports adults with learning difficulties is holding an open day next week.

Chopsticks, in Thurston Road, is opening doors to the public on Tuesday, November 7, to showcase all the services it offers.

The community enterprise is well-known for its bags of kindling produced by the centre’s trainees from waste wood donated by local business.

The showcase day – to held between 10am and 3pm – will be an opportunity for the charity to explain what other services it provides including gardening and ‘Chopshed’ a bespoke wood products and upcycling unit.

The day will also be a chance for the charity to celebrate being named one of this year’s Small Business 100 companies highlighted for their good work as part of the Small Business Saturday in December – an annual campaign which celebrates the best small businesses around the UK.

Jan Glen, Chopsticks general manager (administration and finance), said: “We hope to highlight the range of activities we provide to those with learning disabilities, autism and mental health issues, whilst showcasing their abilities and some of the new skills they learn.”
