North Yorkshire is on course to hit its vaccine targets, NHS officials announced this week.
In an update on the vaccination programme in the county given to Hambleton Today, NHS North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group said the drive was “continuing to progress at pace” with eligible patients continuing to be offered a vaccine as quickly as supply allowed.
Officials said uptake has been high across all nine eligible patient groups, with 169,000 people in North Yorkshire and more than 126,000 people in York having received at least one dose of the vaccine.
They added that at least four out of five people in those nine JCVI priority groups across North Yorkshire — including in Hambleton — have now received at least one dose of the vaccine.
A spokesperson added: “We remain on course to offer at least one dose of the Covid vaccine to all eligible patients in the first nine priority groups by April 15 and a first vaccination offer to every adult by July 31.
“When patients receive their letter from the NHS, those who are willing and able to travel, may choose to receive their vaccine from one of the larger vaccination sites, eg Darlington, York, Newcastle, Morecambe.
“If travelling potentially longer distances is an issue, patients may prefer to wait to be contacted by their GP practice
“If you receive a letter from the NHS / National Booking Service and you choose not to make an appointment at one of the larger vaccination hubs, it’s not necessary to contact your GP practice – you won’t be missed and they’ll be in touch when it’s your turn
NHS North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) accountable officer, Amanda Bloor, added: “We continue to encourage everyone who is invited for a vaccination to take up the offer to protect not only themselves but their communities, families and loved ones.
“Anyone who did not initially come forward when invited can still get the vaccination.
“This is most easily done by contacting the National Booking Service online (www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination) or by calling 119 to get an appointment at one of the larger vaccination centres.
“The telephone booking line is available between 7am and 11pm.”
