The great and the good gathered at a VIP opening of Kiplin Hall and Gardens’ new visitor centre last week.
The event was part of Kiplin 400th birthday celebrations.
At the event Mr Etherington recognised the contributions staff and volunteers make to Kiplin.
Many in the audience were pervious staff members returning to celebrate with the current team and recent funders.
He said: “The fifth family, as our volunteers are known, after the four historic families who’ve owned Kiplin Hall, are an integral part of what we do, and why Kiplin is still standing after 400 years.#
“In the build-up to this anniversary, work has been underway to help see Kiplin into the next century, securing its future.
“As well as the creation of a new visitor centre, new gardens and museum spaces, an ambitious programme of events is planned for the year.
A highlight of the new visitor centre is the Annie Marchant Kitchen and Dairy Collection Gallery which opened for the first time on Thursday, April 3.
This collection was acquired in 2020 after the death of Anne Marchant, an antiques dealer from Kent.
The collection allows Kiplin to tell stories of domestic life in the past, showing visitors how the staff and servants lived and worked at places like Kiplin Hall.
Kiplin Hall and Gardens is open 6 days a week, closed on Thursdays.
