The mother of Northallerton teenager Leah Heyes — who died tragically after taking MDMA— has met the mother of the boy who sold her daughter the drugs.
Kerry Roberts’ 15-year-old daughter collapsed after taking the drug known as ecstasy in the Applegarth car park in May 2019.
The drugs were supplied by Connor Kirkwood, then 17, with another boy, Mitchell Southern, handing them over to Leah.
Connor, from Dishforth, was jailed for 21 months last year but after serving six months of his sentence was released on good behaviour.
Kerry met Connor’s mum Tammy as part of the restorative justice scheme.
Kerry told the BBC: “People will look at us and think it’s an unlikely friendship.
“People will see us as two separate things but we are both grieving. They are both our children.”
The mothers are campaigning together to raise awareness about the dangers of MDMA
Kerry is also campaigning for Leah’s Law, to get 100,000 people to sign a petition to persuade the Government to look at changing the law making it a specific offence to supply drugs to children under 16.
Kerry said: “I want to see a change in the law to make clear that any person under the age of 16 cannot consent to taking illegal substances.
“This will have a two pronged effect in keeping young people safe but also holding those who supply accountable for death and serious injury as a result.”
