Rishi Sunak has praised and thanked ambulance crews based in Northallerton for their work over the pandemic.

The Richmond MP was invited to Northallerton Ambulance Station by the area manager Basharat Rafiq to meet the men and women who maintained the service in difficult circumstances since March 2020.

Mr Sunak, who toured the station and met all the staff on duty, said: “This was a great opportunity to talk to the wonderful people who are a vital part of the NHS team which has seen us through the really difficult last two years.

“They have done a tremendous job and on behalf of all my constituents I wanted to thank them for all they have done

“I am glad to hear the operational pressures are easing after a tough December and January for the crews and that we have seen an improvement in response times.”

Mr Rafiq, who is the locality manager looking after Richmond, Bainbridge and Thirsk stations in addition to Northallerton, said he was grateful that Mr Sunak could come to the station to meet his colleagues.

“It was really encouraging for the team to meet our MP and tell him about the work we have done during the pandemic. It has been a very challenging time for all of us and we very much appreciate his support.”
