Rishi Sunak has praised a couple behind a spectacular festive lights display which has raised thousands of pounds for charity.
Wilf and Marjory Gill met Mr Sunak outside their home in Winton Road, Northallerton, to show him their annual Christmas lights display which attracts visitors from all over North Yorkshire.
The Gill family transform their home every year, raising funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) by asking visitors to donate to ensure that the vital service remains available.
The Richmond and Northallerton MP also congratulated the couple on their recent award at the YAA Awards in October, which the couple received as recognition for the £9,000 they have raised since they first created the annual lights display four years ago.
Mr Sunak said: “Wilf and Marjory are an absolute credit to Northallerton, their festive display brings together the whole community, whilst raising vital funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. I’m so pleased Wilf and Marjory have been recognised for their efforts.”
Mrs Gill said: “We are very proud of our achievement but must say it is due to the support of the people who come and visit, and we are very thankful for the donations they give.”
The festive lights are on every night through December, up until Saturday 5th January from 4pm -10pm
Santa Claus will be visiting the Gills’ display on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd December, between 4.30-6pm.
