A man fled the scene of an accident yesterday.
The emergency services were called to the A6055 near Hackforth, between Leeming and Catterick Village, at 7.42pm on Boxing Day.
A car had left the road and landed in a ditch, with the driver fleeing the scene.
No other vehicles were believed to be involved.
Firefighters from Bedale made the vehicle safe and used a thermal imaging camera to help police search the immediate area.
