More than 20 firefighters battle farm fire

More than 20 firefighters battled a fire in an agricultural building today.

The blaze in Sandhutton, near Thirsk, was reported at about 10.50am.

Crews from Thirsk, Northallerton, Stokesley, Ripon and a water bowser from Boroughbridge attended the incident.

Crews fought the fire using four hose reel jets and one main jet.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Six breathing apparatus wearers were used to gain closer proximity and remove structures to gain better access to the seat of the fire.

“The incident was sectorised to enhance the use of resources in attendance and utilities to the building were isolated by crews when liaising with onsite staff.

“Crews used the water bowser from Boroughbridge as a main water source as no water supplies were available at the site of the incident.

“Control informed the Environmental Agency of potential fire water runaway and kept them updated while the incident remained ongoing.”

The cause is still under investigation.
