A Northallerton man who killed two friends in a horror crash has now been jailed for eight years for raping a teenage girl more than a decade ago.

Luke Jack Ridley, 29, of HMP Holme House, Stockton, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape at Teesside Crown Court on February 4.

The incidents happened when he was a teenager and forced himself on the girl, who was several years younger than him.

It was in September 2022 when the victim reported the incidents to North Yorkshire Police.

The investigation has been led by Detective Constable Quita Readman from Hambleton and Richmondshire CID.

She was able to support the victim throughout the inquiry and ensure she received professional care and support, including from IDAS.

Following today’s sentencing at Teesside Crown Court, DC Readman said: “The victim has been courageous throughout this ordeal. I hope the outcome at court gives her strength as she begins to rebuild her life knowing justice has been served.

“It also proved once again that it is never too late to make a report and seek professional help. We are here for you.”

DC Readman added: “As for Ridley, he now has a considerable period of time in prison to reflect on the misery and trauma he has caused for more than a decade.”

Ridley will remain on the Register of Sex Offenders indefinitely.

In 2019, Ridley was jailed for more than 11 years for causing the death by dangerous driving of two friends,

George Turner and Mason Pearson, both aged 17, were passengers of Ridley’s when he crashed while racing another vehicle on the A61 between Busby Stoop and Carlton Miniott.

The court heard Ridley, who had only held a licence for two days, clocked speeds of up to 80mph while behind the wheel of his Volkswagen Bora.

He slid on to the wrong side of the road before hitting a Ford Focus which left a family, including a three-year-old girl and six-month-old boy, in hospital.
