A man suffered smoke inhalation in a house fire in Northallerton yesterday.
Two fire engines from Northallerton and an appliance from Bedale were called to the incident in Applegarth terrace at about 6.15pm.
A sofa was reported to be on fire in a first floor house.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “This caused damage to an armchair, heater and wall in the lounge of the flat.
“One male suffered smoke inhalation and oxygen therapy was administered by the crews until arrival of an ambulance.”
The fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan.
In a separate incident, firefighters from Northallerton responded to a report of hay bales on fire at Leeming at about 5.45pm.
On arrival this was found to be two large tree stumps which had been deliberately set on fire.
The crew used a hose reel to extinguish the fire.
