A man was rescued after falling around 30 metres down a bank near the White Horse at Kilburn on Saturday.

Firefighters, ambulance crews, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter and volunteers from the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) were called to the scene at about 12noon.

The man suffered a suspected broken wrist in the incident.

The man fell from a footpath on the Cleveland Way near the Yorkshire Gliding Club airfield.

A spokesperson for CMRT said: “After an initial assessment of the casualty’s injuries by the paramedics, our team members set up a technical rope rescue system to allow them to get down through the undergrowth to reach him, approximately 70-feet from the path from which he had fallen.

“Access was difficult due to the thick, overgrown vegetation on the hillside. From there, using the rope system, our volunteer members were able to slowly walk the casualty back up the hillside to the path.

“He was then walked further up to join the main path, to be then taken to the waiting ambulance for onward treatment at hospital. We wish him well for his recovery.”

14 CMRT members were involved in the rescue.

On the way back to their base the Land Rover crew stopped to provide assistance at the scene of an accident on the A172 until the arrival of the police.
