A man has been arrested in connection with a spate of thefts and criminal activity around parked vehicles in Hambleton and Richmondshire.
Last week, officers from Bedale Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) appealed for information after a number of incidents in which a man was seen trying vehicle doors in the town and surrounding rural villages.
Police also received reports of items being stolen from within several vehicles.
Property taken from different vehicles included a car battery charger, a hi-vis jacket, a dashcam and a number of purses and wallets.
Following the reports, an investigation was launched, with NPT officers securing CCTV and information from members of the public.
Officers from the force’s Rural Task Force were deployed to proactively patrol the areas affected over the weekend.
Just after 2am in the early hours of Saturday, Task Force officers stopped a car in a rural area west of Northallerton.
The driver – a 45-year-old man – was arrested in connection with the investigation.
He was arrested on suspicion of seven incidents of theft from a vehicle, ten incidents of interfering with a vehicle, going equipped for theft, and the theft of two pedal cycles.
He has been released on bail, as enquiries continue.
