A man has admitted causing the death of a motorcyclist by careless and inconsiderate driving.

Cameron Ward, 30, was driving a Ford Fiesta on the A684 between Bedale and Crakehall when it collided with 26-year-old Gregory Newcombe’s mustard-coloured Harley Davidson.

Mr Newcombe, from Romanby, Northallerton, suffered fatal injuries in the accident which occurred at the junction with Sinks Lane on July 10, 2022.

Ward, of Oak Drive, Sowerby, appeared at York Crown Court today when he also admitted perverting the course of justice by trying to take out motor insurance after the accident to give the impression that he was insured to drive the Fiesta at the time of the collision.

He also admitted causing the death of Mr Newcombe while being uninsured to drive.

Judge Sean Morris, the Recorder of York, adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports but warned the defendant that he faced an immediate jail sentence.

He told Ward: “These are serious matters and the court, no doubt, will be minded to impose a custodial sentence, so you should put your affairs in order.”

Ward will be sentenced on October 11. He was granted bail until then.
