Campaigners have been refused a bid to challenge a decision to turn North Yorkshire Police’s former headquarters into a children’s activity centre.
They had sought permission for a judicially review of Hambleton District Council’s decision to grant planning permission and listed building consent for Newby Wiske Hall, near Northallerton.
The request has been refused however.
An oral permission hearing held at the High Court, lasting one day, considered an application for a Judicial Review, but permission to proceed was refused and costs were awarded in favour of the council.
Councillor David Webster, portfolio holder for planning, said: “The decision to grant approval for the Newby Wiske site was made after careful consideration of all factors and the ruling in the high court supports the council’s process and decision, as being full and proper.
“We look forward to seeing the development of the site come forward and its contribution to the future of the Hambleton area.”
An application to convert Newby Wiske Hall into a children’s residential centre for PGL was heard by the council’s planning committee on May 29, 2019.
Permission was granted for change of use to the former North Yorkshire Police headquarters to a residential training centre incorporating up to 550 guest bed spaces and staff accommodation.
The decision was formally granted on June 4, 2019.
