Leeming Bar pie makers Vale of Mowbray have worked with an artisan pickle maker to produce two new pork pies.
The company’s Piccalilli and Spicy Piccalilli pies came about following a partnership with Darlington-based Calder’s Kitchen.
The public will be able to taste the new pies at food festivals and country shows in the region this year, including the Great Yorkshire Show and the Dales Food & Drink Festival in Leyburn.
Carl Barker, senior development technologist at Vale of Mowbray, said: “The piccalilli imparts the sweetness of the fresh pickles and crunchy vegetables into our succulent meat, and combining this with our crunchy golden pastry, we created an outstanding and original pie.”
He then went on to produce a second new flavour using the Sillylilli, a spicier version of the original condiment.
“This delivers a delicious Indian spice and mouth-watering flavour with enough heat to make your taste buds tingle before leaving an enjoyable warm glow.
“This combined with the crisp pastry and succulent meat fill produces a pie with amazing depths of flavour.”
Andrew Calder, founder of Calder’s Kitchen, said: “It’s been a fantastic opportunity for us to work with such a prestigious business like Vale of Mowbray.”
